Two Women : One Story
A First Exhibition for Two Talented Ladies
Following their three recent national Museum Awards, Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery has a brand new exhibition opening to entice visitors through its doors called ‘Two Women: One Story’.
Running from 30 November 2021 until 30 January 2022, the exhibition will feature the works of Marion Hinchley and Angela Mavin, two textile artists from Northumberland who met on a Fashion and Textiles course at Northumberland College in 2017.
Their first exhibition, Two Women: One Story explores a diverse range of themes including the notions of personal identity, memories and heritage. A culmination of self-analysis and soul searching (a process which Angela states to have been incredibly cathartic) the body of work presents a wide variety of creative techniques using recycled materials.
Their creative processes are also set to be on show with sketchbooks, mood boards and samples being displayed as part of the exhibition. The pair hope that their work will in turn inspire other locals to take up new artistic challenges of their own.
Jean Humphrys, Chair of Bailiffgate, said “We’re delighted to be hosting Marion and Angela’s debut exhibition here at Bailiffgate. They are very talented textile artists who use their skills to produce imaginative pieces which explore their own cultural histories and personal memories. The exhibition allows us to catch a glimpse of their creative processes and see how much they both invest in their work”
