Childhood

Childhood - 25th April-8th Sept 2024

Visit Bailiffgate, come and reminisce and enjoy the Childhood exhibition looking at how childhood has changed over time, including experiences unique to Alnwick.

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is pleased to exhibit  the Childhood exhibition from 25th April - 8th Sept 2024.

Our Childhood exhibition is for all ages providing fun and thought-provoking reviews of  childhood experiences. It will provide the visitor with an insight into how the journey we all take has changed over time, using images, literature, activities and information.

The exhibition has been locally curated, drawing inspiration from playful histories. Come along and gain a new perspective on yours and other childhoods through this exciting exhibition, providing visitors with an opportunity to engage in childhood games and a range of activities. Leave your mark on the exhibition by creating your own artefact that can be added to the visitor display wall.

By visiting the exhibition you will learn new facts about childhood through the ages, enjoy artwork including some from local artist Stella Vine and literature and poems including a local poet. There will be a range of historical toys and examples of life at school on display as well as a range of childrens' clothing.

There is an exciting range of activities to engage with such as lots of hands on games to play, I spy activities, lift the flaps books, a reading corner with puppets, watch and listen stories and much more but you will have to come to find out.

Our museum shop also has a wide range of heritage toys from Tiddlywinks to Tin Telescopes, Jacks to Juggling Balls, not to mention an exciting range of children’s books so be sure to spend time there as well..

As ever there will be a limited range of handmade Mice to adopt to coincide with the summer exhibition, and as ever they will go very quickly. We recommend that you keep an eye out for their launch.

LOOK I CAN BALANCE

Please note  that we are happy to welcome any well-behaved dogs on leads to Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery, especially to our permanent Museum displays. However, the contents of this exhibition mean that it is unable to accept dogs for hygiene reasons.  We ask visitors with dogs to take turns to visit the upstairs gallery. If a visitor is alone with a dog, and the museum is not busy, some of our volunteers are happy to look after small dogs behind the front desk for a short time.
