Relics of war in Northumberland are to found throughout the county. A quiet rural county its east-facing coastline still left it vulnerable in the Second World War as never before, leading to a massive construction programme. Airfields, radar stations and other defensive and training structures gre up all around the landscape.  Due partly to lower development pressures, more of these have survived than might be expected.

Not a history of thr war itself, this book is nevertheless an excellent guide to what remains to be seen from that unique era, and what was the original purpose of each relic.
