Great Family Museum in Alnwick

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is a small, award-winning local museum and gallery in Alnwick ideal for families. It is led and run by a team of dedicated volunteers including a team working with schools and devising child activities. It provides an ideal introduction the rich history of the Alnwick area and its people. By pre-booking our flexibly-dated entry tickets below, you can also save money.

We offer a range of child activities free with entry. Museum mice are hidden around the two floors housing our permanent collection of fascinating artefacts, documents, photographs and audio visual content relating to the local and wider Northeast Northumberland area. These encourage children to explore and view our displays, and allow accompanying adults to discuss what is on show. For older  children we also have our "Museum Detective"  badge to be won.

On our third, Gallery floor are exhibitions which change throughout the year, striking creations by local artists, craft works, features on particular topics such as “childhood” and “fashion” with an emphasis on local subjects and customs. For more details see our What's On page. Entry to our exhibitions is always free with museum entry. We try to ensure that there is always something new for all ages to enjoy when you visit Bailiffgate. To maintain child interest we also provide a range of activities and games whilst the adults view the gallery contents.

 We also offer a wide range of carefully selected books focused on this area, in our museum shop. This includes a wide selection of children's titles. Many of these are not readily accessible elsewhere. Books can be examined and bought during your visit, but can also be ordered at any time though our extensive online shop.
