After the shortages and rationing of the immediate post-war period, life began to improve in the 1950’s. As well as more availability of foodstuffs there were more consumer goods, such as record players and 45 rpm discs. The first ’45 had actually been pressed by RCA Victor in 1948, and was called “PeeWee the Piccolo”. As few people would have had equipment to play it, however there is no sign that poor Pee Wee was a great success.

Loans Boxes for Educational purposes
Our Loans Box service is again free of charge to schools, childminders and home educators.
A small charge of £15 per box for up to two weeks is made for care homes and all other individuals and organisations wishing to use this service.

- Click on the calendar below to check the dates you want are available and reserve your two week period from Saturday to Saturday (please note if you exceed the 14 days it will not allow you to book)· Click on the ‘Sponsored or Not’ drop down to confirm whether you qualify for the free loans box or whether you need to pay the fee

Please note: All bookings run from Saturday to Saturday and users must collect and deliver the loans boxes back to Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery (open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm). Loans Boxes and any additional items not contained in the loans box must be returned by at least the stated return date. You may return them early but note we are not open on Mondays.
