The White Canons of Alnwick

Latest book by Peter Carter now on sale.

Who were the White Canons? Why did 388 years of hospitality and aid to the destitute come to an end? And what had Simon de Montefort’s foot got to do with it?

These and many more questions are answered in local author Peter Carter’s latest book, now available in the Bailiffgate shop, price just £5. After seeing the remains of Alnwick Abbey for the first time, Peter was fascinated to find out what had originally been there, and about the people who lived and worked in the much larger original establishment. This book is the result of his dedicated research over several years.

The White Canons follows on from his more general “Story of Alnwick & District” which has proven extremely popular. There are still a few copies of this available at the Bailiffgate shop, so why not snap up both at the same time? Remember that you don’t have to pay for entry to browse the Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery shop. It is open at all times that Bailiffgate is open, and there is a tremendous range of books, DVDs gifts and toys, many with a local theme and not necessarily available elsewhere in Alnwick.
