The history of the Percy family is irrevocably intertwined with that of Britain itself . Generations of Percy barons, lords, earls and dukes have played their parts in seismic national events from the Norman Conquest to the two World Wars. Alnwick Castle , once battle-scarred is now a major tourist attraction. Harry Hotspur, a character well-featured by Shakespeare was the eldest son of of the First Earl of Northumberland and the castle has boasted fascinating characters throughout its 700 year history. As a young man the 6th Earl was a lover of Ann Boleyn. The brother of the 5th Duke brought news of Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo.

This is a unique book in that it has been written and illustrated by the words and images of the current head of the Percy dynasty. It features not only stories from the distant past but also images of his own childhood, including ice-skating on the river Aln and childhood games around the castle rooms.
