Scrubs for Superheros

NHS staff at the Alnwick Medical Group have taken a fresh delivery of scrubs, washbags and face masks made by the Sewing B’s of Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery.

Using donated materials, a small team of volunteers have turned their hand to making washable, comfortable, stylish scrubs for local health care professionals.  Each set of scrubs has its own drawstring washbag so the contaminated scrubs aren’t touched again at home but go straight into the washing machine.

Hilary Waugh, coordinating the Sewing B’s said ‘I am so grateful for what the NHS is doing and I wanted to find a way to help out.  Our small team of seamstresses and tailors at Bailiffgate make all the replica clothing for our exhibitions so wanted to use those skills to help fight coronavirus.  Other local scrub hubs already have plenty of volunteers so we contacted our local GP practice who bit our hands off for washable scrubs to use in the community’.

Tony Brown, Managing Partner at Alnwick Medical Group welcomes this volunteer initiative: ‘we are over the moon to get these scrubs which look fabulous and are comfortable and hard-wearing. The washbags make them a useful and safe part of our PPE armoury to use now against Covid-19 and in the future against flu and other viruses.

My favourite so far is the Superhero Scrubs outfit – one of our Doctors has a weekly paediatric session in North Tyneside and I can see it going down well with the children there!  Our team of 100 staff at Alnwick Medical Group are working incredibly hard and this is a great boost to morale to know that volunteers at Bailiffgate and in the local community are so supportive and and making us such incredibly stylish outfits.’
