Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary
This unique event is part of Bailiffgate Museum’s ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for learning and well-being across all our communities.
We have invited BBC radio broadcaster Andrew Edwards to visit Alnwick to speak about his award-winning podcast Mum and Me: The Dementia Diaries.
Andrew was given a Dementia Hero award by the Alzheimer’s Society in 2021 for his weekly audio diary in recognition of what he’d done to increase awareness of dementia. He’ll talk about his 34-year career with the BBC and discuss his experiences of looking after someone with dementia (the many pluses as well as the minuses).
Andrew’s mum Carolyn, who died in 2022, was formally diagnosed with mixed dementia - Alzheimer’s and vascular - at the start of 2018. A few months earlier Andrew had brought her to Northumbria where she and his late Dad enjoyed many happy holidays. Their visit included Alnwick Castle Gardens.
