Nearly 500 school children took part this year in the annual Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery Art competition. If this had been a normal year, the paintings and drawings of the 10 winners would have been framed and hung in Bailiffgate and every entrant’s illustration projected on the big screen throughout the summer Vikings exhibition. And although Covid-19 has meant the myth-busting Vikings exhibition (in collaboration with JORVIK) has been postponed until 2021, every pupil from the nine schools that took part can see their images in the films uploaded to Bailiffgate’s YouTube Channel.
Jean Humphrys, Chair of the Trustees said ‘Every year, I look forward to seeing the work of local schoolchildren turned into films and projected onto our big screen during our fabulous summer exhibitions. I’m so glad we will all still get the chance to see them on our YouTube channel. Bailiffgate has a vast online collection of films, photos, posters, documents and oral histories on our websites. I’m delighted that although we are closed, our collections are available to our local, national and international virtual communities’.
