Alnwick in Full Colour is a colourful re-imagining of Alnwick Market Square.
In November 2024, artist Tony Wade worked with 57 people from Alnwick, aged 9 to 89 to create these colourful panoramas.
Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery invited members of the public to do some close looking at Alnwick’s architectural heritage, and to make silk paintings of each of the buildings. Tony Wade then digitally stitched the images together to create the vibrant interpretations which will be on show at this exhibition.
About Tony Wade
Tony Wade is a Wakefield-based artist who explores the emotional impact landscapes can have on humanity. He believes that our interactions and relationships with landscape, both urban and rural, can provide magical experiences, only if we look.
Wade graduated from Bretton Hall College, Leeds University, with a BA Fine Art in 1986. Wade’s practice investigates the infra-ordinary and looks for ways – through painting, sculpture, installation, light and music – to explore and share those experiences.
To date Wade has created over 200 installations and exhibitions across the UK, including Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Hepworth Gallery (Wakefield), Shadwell Basin (London) and St Donat’s Castle (Wales). He has also been commissioned by the English National Opera, Opera North and the National Archives.
Part of Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery’s ‘People Make Alnwick’ programme.
