Who would have thought that a sunny visit to Alnwick back in the summer of 2019 and in particular a visit to the Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery would have made such an impact on my life but it did.
I was extremely impressed by the welcome I received to the Museum and the informative and interesting permanent exhibition which took me through the 10,000 years of history of Alnwick. The exhibition of Fashion which was on at the time was so interesting. I enjoyed my visit so much that I decided to take out a Friends membership. I felt the museum was a worthwhile investment of my money and wanted to support them particularly when I knew they were volunteer run.
I never thought that a couple of months later I would become a Trustee and a month of two later take on the Company Secretary role. Yet here I am coming up to nearly 2 years on and my life couldn’t be so different and so rewarding.
I have been involved and working with other volunteers in setting up a retail online shop, updating loans boxes and setting up an online booking system, writing successful bids, creating risk assessments to ensure the museum is safe for visitors during a Covid pandemic, updating policies, getting involved in events such as Preview evenings for the Exhibitions to name a few things. What an exciting 2 years it has been working alongside committed volunteers who enthusiastically give up their time for such a worthy cause.
I can’t wait to see what the next 2 years will bring!
