Bailiffgate Museum is right nearby Alnwick Castle

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is opposite the main (Bailiffgate) entrance to the Castle. It provides an ideal introduction the rich history of the Alnwick area and its people, including the castle and its noble inhabitants. By pre-booking flexibly-dated entry tickets below, you can also save money.

We are enjoyed and used by all ages, visitors to the town and our local community. Two floors house a permanent collection of fascinating artefacts, documents, photographs and audio visual content relating to the local and wider Northeast Northumberland area.

On our third, Gallery floor are exhibitions which change throughout the year. Striking creations by local artists and craftspeople. For more details, see our What's On page. Entry to our exhibitions is always free with museum entry. We try to ensure that there is always something new for all ages to enjoy when you visit Bailiffgate. To maintain child interest we also provide a range of activities and games such as “Museum Detectives” and our well-known museum mouse hunts.

We also offer a wide range of carefully selected books in our museum shop, including the two recent publications by Ralph Percy, the Duke of Northumberland. Many of our range are not readily accessible elsewhere. Titles can be examined and bought during your visit, but can also be ordered at any time though our extensive online shop.

We are open Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the year except the Christmas/New Year period.

We are easy to get to. Our historic building is in the town’s Castle Quarter, very close to Alnwick Castle and Garden. It was previously a church, and provides a beautiful setting in which to celebrate 10,000 years of unique heritage. There is parking on the street outside, and we are only 0.3 of a mile from the town car parks and bus station. The nearest rail station -Alnmouth- is 4 miles away.
