Something for everyone at Bailiffgate
There is plenty for all ages to see and do at Bailiffgate. Two floors of permanent exhibits illustrate the fascinating 10,000 year history of Alnwick and District. In addition there is a third Gallery floor. The following Exhibitions and Events will take place there during the year. You can click on the button below each picture to see more details. Entry to the main Gallery exhibition and any other pop-up exhibitions is always free with museum entry. You do not need to reserve a place at any of these. If you become a museum Friend, then you and your family can also come in free for a whole year. See Details
Although our permanent exhibition floors will still be open, the Exhibition floor will be closed on Sunday 31st May and Monday 1st June for the creation of our new exhibition " Ration Books to Moon Landings"
2nd June -30th Aug 2026. " Ration Books to Moon Landings" Bailiffgate presents a thought-provoking in-house exhibition of life in the Alnwick area from 1950 to 1970, drawing upon our extensive archives of items, written material and sound recordings. Participative activities for all the family.
1st Sept -1st Nov 2026. "Streets to Sea", a stunning exhibition by artist Kev Oldham, with almost unimagineable clarity of images, created by his advanced painting technique,
Saturday 19th September 2026 has been chosen as Alnwick's Heritage Open Day, so get it in your diary now. There will be special events all round the town. Entry to Bailiffgate will be free to residents of Alnwick District ( please bring some form of proof, such as an addressed utilty bill)

Curious about volunteering at Bailiffgate? Join us for our Drop‑in Tuesday events. Just pop into the museum for an informal chat, no booking required. It’s a relaxed hour where you can discover what volunteering at the museum involves and explore the opportunities that might suit you.
No need to book. Just turn up one second Tuesday and have a chat with us. How do you like to spend your time? What are you interested in? What skills or experience would you like to share with others, and how can Bailiffgate help in that? There is absolutely no pressure, and no commitment.
"Museum Detectives" is a stimulating quest for older children, finding clues dotted around the museum. They then get a free " Museum Detective" badge.
