Become a Volunteer

The award-winning Bailiffgate Museum is looking for  volunteers to help in the museum.




We need volunteers in a wide range of roles. Volunteering at Bailiffgate means:


-  Being part a team of friendly, interesting, interested individuals in an award winning museum


-  Helping to preserve the history, heritage and culture of Alnwick and the surrounding district

-  Enjoying working in a beautiful, historic Grade 2 listed building, seeing exhibitions and attending events.

-  Welcoming our visitors. 

-  Promoting our rich and diverse range of community projects and events 


-  Boosting your CV, whatever employment you may be seeking.

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer for different types of roles including marketing, finance, education, community projects, visitor reception, exhibitions and IT.  We also need a trustee with a marketing or facilities management background. If you can help us even for a few hours a month do please contact us using the form below..

Existing volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities, including:

·         front-of-house (reception/shop) work

·         providing educational opportunities for all ages and abilities

·         historical research

·         preparing exhibitions

·         taking care of our collections

·         Grant and community fundraising

·         Getting involved with social media


Being a volunteer means you can have lots of fun meeting new people, getting to grips with history and giving something back to the local community. It is a wonderful way to spend free time, to help build your CV or to learn something new.

We are happy to take work experience or educational placements and to provide written references at the end of your time with us - although you need to contact us as soon as possible to discuss exactly when you will be available so that we can agree what is the best way forward.
