Tony Simpson

At the start of lockdown, I found that I overcompensated for the feeling of separation and isolation. I baked copious amounts of cakes and walked miles to try and nullify the excessive weight gain! In my artwork I experimented with different techniques and materials with mixed results. I tried digital art using an iPad and Apple pencil and produced several interesting pieces. As lockdown continued, I found things increasingly difficult and stopped producing anything at all. I missed the interaction with everyone from the art group but found our WhatsApp group a great way to keep in touch and share our experiences. It was only when I escaped into to my “comfort zone “and painted seascapes and fishing boats that I began to enjoy producing work again. I grew up in Craster and many of my relatives worked the fishing boats that became the subject for several of my paintings.
