I am a trustee and chair OSG, our management group, at which about ten volunteers are responsible for the day to day operation of the museum. Meeting every two weeks, we ensure that events, exhibitions, projects and so on work smoothly. I am also heavily involved in fundraising. Our greatest success has been to achieve a grant of nearly £320k from the Heritage Lottery Fund but we are constantly applying for smaller sums.
Volunteering at the museum puts to good use some of the leadership and management skills I developed as the head teacher of a large secondary school. It has been enormously rewarding to watch our museum go from strength to strength and feel I play a part in preserving this valuable community resource.
I also enjoy being part of a great team. There are a lot of social events at the museum, people are friendly and welcoming.
