W. Davison Items
William Davison (1781 – 1858) was one of the most famous and active sons of Alnwick - if not the whole North East. A pharmacist, printer and publisher, his whole life was dedicated to spreading health and education throughout all social classes. He developed cheap educational flysheets that could be used in ragged schools and workhouses. He published the first part work Bible and helped set up the Mechanics Institute in Alnwick.
Whilst the Bailiffgate permanent exhibition focuses on his many worthy achievements, our shop items concentrate more on the lighter side of his printing activity. We have amusing and attractive card and tea towel replicas of some of the thousands of posters and handbills he produced during a long and successful life.
