Bailiffgate Museum is an ideal place for a class visit.
We have a wide range of resources and activities that can be used to support the teaching of many topics and curriculum areas. The Museum is particularly relevant to the study of History, Geography, Art and English.
There is a classroom area for school parties and resources currently include:
- Activity sheets
- Memory boxes and handling collections
- Victorian costume wardrobe
- Victorian classroom
- An ‘Art Cart’ offering art and craft sessions for younger children linked to our temporary Exhibitions.
We can support many different activities for schools, including history workshops, outreach visits, object handling sessions, town walks, art activities and loan boxes. We are always very happy to discuss your requirements with you, and visits can be tailored to your group’s needs. Teachers’ preview visits to the Museum are free of charge and information sessions can be arranged.
The prices for group visits are as follows
Adult/ Concessions One free place per 10 paying visitors at full adult and/ or concessionary rates. Cheapest one free. Not valid with any other offer
Schools/ Youth groups/ Uniformed Youth Organisations One free teacher or leader for every 10 paying children. Not valid with any other offer.
Educational Workshops - £30 including VAT plus £1 admission per child. Teachers free.
Use of Loans Boxes in the Museum (Does not include instruction or supervision by museum staff or volunteers) £7.50 (including VAT) per box per morning or afternoon.
One hour story telling/ dressing up/ art activity for Guides, Scouts, and other voluntary youth groups – £10 + Vat plus normal group admission prices
School visits to the Museum are always welcome, but must be booked in advance. Teachers are recommended to register using the form below, so we can contact you to discuss your needs. You will then also be advised of forthcoming special exhibitions and gallery events which could be especialy suitable.
